I am submitting my short story titled, The Seargent. I'm submitting this story because, not only did I receive good reviews from classmates, I, too, feel like it is my best work. I plan on submitting to The Claremont Review because the guidelines are seemingly easy to meet and I feel like my story meets those guidelines. The guidelines simply say that you must be age 13-19, from traditional to post modern, and they'd like the writing to reveal something about human condition. It's rather nerve racking to think that someone in the real world who deals with people like myself on a daily basis will be reading and judging my story, but in the end, regardless of whether or not my story gets published, it will be a good experience.
ReplyDelete1. The story I'll be submitting is "Dirty Conscience" because I feel that I really made a breakthrough while writing it, and its just an all around great story.
ReplyDelete2. I'll be submitting to Teen Ink because I love all of the work I've seen on the website and I can see that they like all types of stories and really respect the work that is submitted to them.
3. Any work submitted will be considered for publication. There is no deadlines. All materials submitted become property of teen ink.
4. It's very intimidating to know that my story, with my emotion and feeling has a chance to be seen by the world. But it's also exciting.
1. What story are you submitting and why?

ReplyDeleteI have alredy submitted the first short story, that I wrote this year, "Gun in Hand." I submitted it to Teen Ink, by creating an account and sending it by Email. My story, to my surprise, was posted on their website. The feeling of sending out a short story to the public eye, and it being approved, is a positive feeling. It shows that someone else appriciated the work enough to publish it. When I send out another short story, I would send it to Teen Ink, due to it is a simple way to submit literature.

ReplyDeleteThe submission guidelines instruct me to read the magazine to get a feel for what they print, send a typed manuscript including SASE, and also inform them that you have a copyright clearance.
Sending something I wrote out into the world would make me feel both successful and apprehensive just because its inevitable for some people to be critical. Having a student in class read it wouldnt intimidate me as much because the criticism wouldn't be shared with as many people.

3. The main guidelines for submission is you have to be 13-19 years of age & you must send them a copy & keep one for yourself because they don’t send the copy you sent them back.
4. It feels nerve racking to send my short story of to the public verses to having a friend just read it and correct it, because they will probably be harsher then the people you are in class with.

I am submitting my short story, “A Mother’s Warning”, because I feel that this short story is the best one that I have ever done, and I am proud of it, and want it to be published for other people to read. I am submitting my short story to Teen Ink because when we had Ms. Gotchle we had to submit our work and I chose Teen Ink then, so I already have experience with the website and a cover page/submitting page or whatever she made us do. To submit work to Teen Ink, you can either submit it through mail or email. They prefer it through email, so that will be the path that I will take to send my work. When I submit, I have to put my name, birthday, full address, telephone number, name of my school and English teacher, my email address, label as fiction or nonfiction, include a title, typed, and a signed page verifying that the work is original. It feels weird to have people I don’t know reading my work and judging it, because with a classmate, you can explain things to them when they don’t get it, I can’t do that with a person I can’t see. But if my story gets published, I will feel really good about myself and my writing capabilities.

ReplyDeleteThe instursions state that it must be done online and clear or to the point and brief. One part of me is indifferent to the fact that one will know and most likely forget about it. The other side is panicing, getting clammy hands, and only thinking of the publics reaction.

4. How does it feel sending your writing out into the world versus just having a student in class read it?
I am submitting my short story "A Fortunate Ending" because it portrays a theme of letting people know that even though obstacles in life may seem extremely tough and unfortunate, there's still hope for a positive outcome. I am submitting my short story to Teen Ink because I feel that it is age appropriate. The submission guidelines instruct me that all stories that are being sent become property of Teen Ink, and those who submit their short story retain the right to submit publication to other publishing companies. Sending my writing out into the world causes me to feel a bit nervous knowing that professionals will be revising my writing material. However, i am also excited to receive feedback.
